Default Question about brakes, sensors.

A local shop said I need rear pads and rotors for my 2008 A8. I was thinking of EBC Redstuff based on some comments here. I'm just doing day to day driving. However, I don't know if I should get the pads with sensors ($130) or without ($80)from ECS. Are the sensors part of the old brake pads such that they couldn't be reused?

As far as rotors, I was going to go with OEM from ECS ($218)....

Thanks.

I believe the sensors work by making contact with a metal strip half way through the special brake pad. So I don't think there is anything that can be reused.

The rear pads on the D3 A8's don't have sensors. The stepper motor calipers sense when the rear pads are wearing near their limit. The fronts do have in integrated wear away resistor pellet.

I suggest getting the OEM rotors, as they work the best IMO. Rears like Mister said do not have sensors. Only the front do.

I ended up replacing my rear brakes and rotors with OEM rotors and Akebono ceramic brakes and it ran me $350 including install. The ceramics squeaked so I had them replaced for free with OEM. Now the OEM sqeak as well and it is driving me mad!!!! It seems to only squeak when going fully applying the brakes to a standstill. Seems more squeaky on the first few stops before the pads warm up though. I believe I bedded them in correctly, it is just annoying lol

Good point. The guy told me I needed brakes but he put that I needed rotors too on the sheet. So, I'm not really sure.

The brakes have been squealing real bad. So I figured I was due. I know the guy so I guess he's reputable. :-)

I guess if you trust him then fine, but I would go Audi Brake Specialist if it were me. I'm assuming you know that a Vag.Com or VCDS System is required in order to do anything to those Rear Brakes? Laters,
