Default Question about high beams..

On my 05 shouldn't the high beams flash when you pull the turn signal lever on steering column towards you? The high beams go on when the lever is pushed in and lights are on. High beams are activated through MMI, anyways what does that do? Just wondering about this because every other car I've ever driven the high beams flashed when this lever is pulled toward the driver. Thanks

You can flash the lights if you pull the lever and release it on my '06. Running or not, lights on or not.

On my 05 puling the lever flashes high beams. If high beams are on in MMI pushing the lever turns them on permanently. I really do not know why that has to be adjustable trough MMI.

On my 04, when you pull the switch towards you it flashes the halogen high beam. No matter if its activated or not in the MMI. When you put it forward to lock the high beams on and if its activated in MMI the Xenon bulbs will become the high beam by moving the(Dont quote me)Mechanical shutter in the headlight housing to make the Xenon brighter. If it is not activated than it will not do nothing.

That's exactly what I thought it was supposed to do. I didn't know if the A8 was different for some reason. I guess I might have a bad switch or something then. Thanks.

Yes, pulling it towards you should illuminate the halogen center lights and pushing it away from you will raise the cut-off on the HIDs, in effect giving you high beams. On a car like this I'd almost wonder if it's a setting the MMI that's off versus a non-working switch.

yup, pulling it towards you turns on the halogen "flash to pass" and away from you turns on the HID high beams

I'm wondering if the problem is two burnt out halogen passing light bulbs or a blown fuse or two. I have mycar set to "Rest of World" (ROW) so I can have the foglights on with only parking lights. Also, the low beams are fixed (shutter only moves during powerup) and high beams are the halogen passing lights which are brighter than the HID headlamps.

Good point, I'll have to check that. So how many bulbs are in the headlights other than the xenons?

AFAIK; one high beam and one parking light bulb.
