Quick Help Please. Compressor!!

2007 A8L 88,000 miles. Car is at shop now because I had front upper control arms and front pads and rotors done and after i picked it up I notice my suspension seemed floaty. MMI settings gray out intermittently. Take it back to shop and they say it's my compressor. Diagnostics show that the temp sensor on the compressor is showing overheating. They say no leaks or anything on struts, it's just that temperature sensor. Audi does not sell just the sensor, wants you to buy whole compressor. And a WABCO compressor from Arnott is $1100. Anyone know of a better work around?
Thanks

I don't know about cheaper parts, but there's a technical service bulletin on that failure. TSB-43-08-15: Air suspension operative (dtc 1577). compressor switch off due to excessive temperature(sporadic) is stored in the air suspension control module. This dtc does not indicate a compressor malfunction.
Condition
^The self-leveling system can no longer be adjusted with the MMI.
^The compressor for the self-leveling system continues to run after the engine has been switched off and the vehicle has been
locked.
^ One of the following DTCs may be stored in the level control system module, J197 (address word 34):
^ DTC 0453 (restricted function through excess temperature)
^ DTC 1583 (leak in the system recognized)
^ DTC 1770 (sender for compressor temperature of self-leveling control G290)
^ DTC 1772 (signal cable of pressure sender for self-leveling control G291)
^ DTC 2645 (valves for self-leveling control)
^ DTC 2646 (plausibility of self-leveling control)
Technical Background
Because of poor performance or failure of the air suspension compressor, the vehicle ride height cannot be adjusted. As a
safeguard, the control module will lower the vehicle to the lowest position and illuminate the warning light. Drivability is not
affected.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
Tip:
See the current flow diagram for the location of the J403 relay for the air supply unit and the location of the air compressor (air
supply unit).
1. Check the function of the air compressor by supplying it with direct current. Determine if the air compressor is operating
correctly and sounds normal, if it is unusually noisy, or if it is not working at all.
2. Check relay J403 by opening the relay and check for any signs of corrosion.

I try to always put my car in jack mode prior to having any work done on tires or suspension. Hopefully they did not start the job with the suspension active.
Check the shocks by putting in jack mode and letting it sit overnight.
Also, it is not still in jack mode is it? This will prevent the MMI from adjusting the suspension.

The car is not in jack mode. Shop said they disabled suspension like always before doing work in front end. Anything that could have caused a compressor failure if control arms, front brakes and rotors were done.

Clear that faulty code and check if it will come back. It may be that those guys didn't use Jack Mode so leveling system worked overtime overheating the compressor. Than check http://www.ebay.com/itm/Air-Suspension-Compressor-Audi-A8-6-8-Cylinder-/161614251949?hash=item25a0f5c7ad&vxp=mtr
