Rear climate control with digital controls?
I had originally thought the rear climate control with LCD readout and digital controls was an 07+ option, but I recently saw an 04 or possibly an 05 with it. It seems like an extremely rare option. What option package included that?

not sure exactly what you mean but my 04 rear controls pretty much work like my front controls....

Maybe what most cars have, isn't even a rear climate control? I just looked at pics up close and looks like thumbwheels with numbers and what looks like seat icons, so maybe those are heated seat controls?
If that's the case, it seems the rear climate controls themselves are really, really rare. Dozens and dozens of 04 and 05's I've been looking at on eBay the past few months have the thumbwheels, only one has had digital climate controls in that location.
What option package comes with the rear climate?

Rear seat climate control has been an option since the D3 was introduced along with rear seat lumbar adjustments. I believe they were both customer order options, so they weren't on dealer inventory cars.

Thanks, I would really like to buy one with that option, but it seems to be very, very rare for 04-05 and more common on 07+. I can do without as I'd never sit back there, I just have a thing for gadgets.
A lot of dealers had advertised "rear climate control" on cars that didn't have it, maybe because it had the vents, so I had incorrectly assumed those thumbwheel seat controls were some kind of analog climate control.

both found in W12 in all years
Car has rear fore and aft adjustment in the (default) four seater configuration, plus lumbar control.
D3 W12 run started in 2005.

Theirs two different packages. One includes rear seat adjustment and lumbar, and the other one is just a package including only the rear climate controls.

Rare on earlier models, but it can be retrofitted
As others have mentioned, it is an option on 4.2 as a customer ordered option. Especially in the earlier production years. However, you may be intereseted in a retro-fit which has been done (see link) but obviously at a cost.
