Default Rear PDC Harness

Hey Guys, trying to diagnose my PDC fault in the rear. The fault was an Open or Short to Ground code on the driver side middle sensor. I took a working sensor (can hear it ticking) and put it in the "bad" sensor connector, and no tick. Still got the same fault code. Also, the "Bad" sensor works in the other harness connector (I can hear ticking).

Now it sounds like I have a problem with the harness at that connection. Visibly inspecting the harness it looks OK and all tape is still in place. Has anyone had or heard of a harness problem like this before? And better yet, does anyone have a wiring diagram so I can use a multi-meter to trace the wires back to the PDC box in the trunk?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

you need a multimeter and check every cable, I had very similar problem with my -05 Range Rover. I cleaned the wires in some places and measured resistance. Cable was corroded (green stuff) and totally broken inside.

PDC is all fixed!

When testing the wires I was able to get a signal back to the PDC controller from the 17 pin plug. From the 17 pin plug to pin 2 on the left middle sensor there was no connection.

I had to take the bumper off on one side and remove the harness. (Removing the bumper SUCKS, I had convinced myself I was going to break something). After removing the tape and going over the wire there was an obvious short in the wire with brown markings and bulging in the shielding. The shorted part was right above the exhaust tip so it probably got too hot at one point and melted. I think the previous owner had the bumper removed once and the harness was not properly clipped into the bumper.

I cut a section of the wire out and soldered in a new one with heat shrink and tape covering the wires. Multimeter check came back OK and once everything was put back together I no longer got the dreaded long beep when pushing the parking button.

Wiring fun!

Good find - good fix. There are tons of people would do a sloppy job instead of doing it right the first time.

Cheers,

Louis
