Rear window trim replacement
Thanks for looking,
Took advantage of some unseasonably warm weather yesterday to clean my '06 A8. While cleaning the car with my sprayer I managed to damage the rubber trim around the small rear quarter panel glass.
Is it possible to replace the rubber trim by itself or am I stuck purchasing a new piece of replacement glass with the trim already installed?
Matt

I had the inner trim removed from mine last week, and it seemed to me that the rubber molding is cast around the window glass, so I think that you will have to replace the entire window.
Put a pic of it, maybe there's a repair solution for it...

The rubber is a separate part from the glass. Unfortunately, the glass is bonded/glued to the glass as part of the installation process. Removing the glass it without breaking it is difficult. Even more difficult are the prices for the glass and trim & rubber. Especially if the glass is dual pane.

Thanks for the replies,
Attached is an admittedly poor photo showing the damage. This was a bone head move on my part and I was surprised at how quickly the damage happened. Worst case i'll bite the bullet and replace the entire window assembly if need be.

Or, go the cheap route?
The black edge of my C5 trim near the same window area sometimes shows some aluminum look where the finish wore away. I just hit it with a Sharpie once or twice a year. From a foot away, can't see much of anything.
How about in your case you mask off that area with some painters tape and then try lightly sanding the damage. Then paper out a couple of feet for overspray. Get the rattle can with some flat black paint (like Rustoleum) and dust it w/ a few light coats right where the finish got messed up. Worst you have to lose is a can of paint and an hour. And if it fails, can still just get the expensive gasket and perhaps glass. I'm guessing that--if you have some spray and prep experience--like with my A6 from about a foot away no one will see it unless you point them at it.
