Default Remove Shift **** Internals

Does anyone know how to remove the internal pieces of the shift **** so I can get mine re-finished? I looked in Bentley with no luck, it only described how to remove the ****.

Default I think the issue is moot...

The plastic coating can not be removed with out destroying the wood underneath. At least I never could find a way... If you find a way to strip an Audi's wood finish, let me know how.

Never done this but what about treating it like any other fine wood product, just sand it off and re-finish with stain and quality clear coat/varnish.

I would recommend a catalyzed lacquer or catalyzed polyurethane depending on how you want it to look. Lacquer has a warmth to the look and polyurethane generally looks like plastic. Catalyzed finishes are harder and thus more durable than non-cat finishes. Pre-cat lacquer is, in certain circles, the gold standard for kitchen cabinets.

That may work on a **** since it is a solid piece of wood. My experiments were on door trim which have only a thin veneer. The urethane coating impregnates the wood a bit, so when I sanded the veneer enough to remove all the urethane so the wood could be refinished I was through to the aluminum backing.

Let us know how it goes...I have a wood **** that may someday crack as so many do.

The wood ***** contrary to popular belief are not solid. There is a solid wood core made of an unattractive wood, and a very thin veneer of walnut or the wood of choice over the core. When they begin to crack, its the veneer coming free from the core. Ask me how I know.

Great replies, but does anyone know how to get the innards out, the metal piece comes off somehow and the internals can be removed.

I was told this may be a veneer, the other wood panels seem to be as well.

I have one that cracked and eventually a large piece fell off, micro thin veneer, the finish is thicker than the veneer.
