I'm thinking of swapping the 4.2 V8 from our A8 (my 03) with an RS6 V8 engine.
Has anybody got some info on this subject?
CHeers!

Stateside maybe...but not over here.
An S8 V10 will set you back 140 grand in euro's over here..
But if I collect a nice RS6 V8 engine with all the parts that i need to fit in the A8,that should cost around 10.000 euro's...
That means more power than an S8 V10 and atleast 80k cheaper.
The only thing is that i don't know if it fits..it really has to look OEM.

and a lot of complications could come up. Has it been proven to fit and be reliable? Is the tranny strong enough? Unless you don't mind having little issues(possibly big) I would stay away from it. It can be a big headache.
Have you considered Supercharging the car? Perhaps buying a used S55 Benz could be another option. Those have a lot of power and are roomy.

Looked into it heavily and the conclusion I came up with was the following.
Rebuild existing engine with forged pistons. Port heads. Fit RS6 manifolds and turbos and use an aftermarket boost controller. Map ECU to suit. Thats it the basic way. You would need larger injectors and other things as well.
Fitting the RS6 engine would be hard due to the electronics. It would work, but getting all the other little bits to work.
I am awaiting PES Tuning to release their supercharger for the engine. 450bhp estimated and $7k USD.
