My car ran hot today I checked the coolant and it is low should I add coolant or have it checked.

Yes you should add coolant, make sure it is the correct coolant, likely g13, and then get it checked.

If it is low then add fluid and see if it continues. Possibly your water pump is leaking.

The most common leak is the reservoir, if I recall. You will want to source the leak, if it's lost enough to cause overheating, there will be a clear trail of residue leading up to the leak. Start from the bottom and work your way up, where the residue trail ends will be your leak. Should be pinkish in color. Even after topping the coolant back off, be vigilant in both checking the levels and monitoring the temperature. The lower levels of coolant may be a symptom, not necessarily the cause. Do not under any circumstances drive it if it's getting hot, it doesn't matter if you're a mile from home. Just stop immediately, as soon as you are out of the lane of traffic.
