I remember that shortly after the early European MB CL55 Kompressor deliveries, MB increased the output somewhat to the 493bhp/516 lb. ft. that I had in my 2003. Given the new S Class and 7 Series engine ouptut, Audi may dial the new S8 engine power up a bit on production models. I understand that Audi was cognizant of the MB and BMW engine output well before the new S8 intro, but the market may expect more than 450 bhp, even if the price is not nearly as high the old or new MB AMG S version.

Unless, of course, Audi discontinues the A8/A8L W12 worldwide. That is a distinct possibility as global sales of the W12 version of the A8/A8L have been very slow, especially in North America, where we only get the A8L W12 and not the A8 W12. An RS 8 would likely worsen sales of the A8/A8L W12. If the A8/A8L W12 is discontinued and Audi comes out with an RS 8, the RS 8 would most likely (but not definitely) have a high revving (9,000-9,500 RPM redline) 5.5L FSI V10 hybrid producing a total of 600 hp and 582 or 583 lbs/ft of torque. If this is the case, that would be 550 hp and 435 lbs/ft of torque from the 5.5L FSI V10 and 50 hp and 148 lbs/ft of torque from the electric motor. The transmission that the RS 8 will have if it is built will most likely be a special DL900 Borg Warner 7-speed DSG with a maximum capacity of 664 lbs/ft of torque specifically designed to fit into the D3 chassis.
