I would like to share this with the D3 community as your cars are quite a rare sight on the road, 4.2 trim or otherwise.
An S8 owner had his 2007 S8 stolen along with a new 2013 Volkswagen CC in Granite Bay, California, a community near Folsom Lake, about 30 minutes northeast of California's Capitol Sacramento. I met the owner's son at an Audi enthusiast event in 2011 and had the honor of parking my W12 on display at the event next to this S8.
I will ask if the owner is OK with posting his phone number online but in the mean time please PM me and I will relay any information that you think could help lead to the recovery of the S8.
UPDATE: You can contact the owner at motorsports916@gmail.com
Alternatively, you can call the Placer County Sheriff's Department.
I know D3 guys can spot another D3 far better than the uninitiated so I hope you don't mind me asking for your help in this forum.
Here are the specific details on the two cars:
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

The cars were stolen from the garage and IIRC the keys were either in the garage or in the cars. Per the son of the owner: "they did this in broad daylight with both my parents home. My mom walked out in the middle of the theft, which made the driver of the S8 drive across the landscaping in an attempt to run."
If there is anyone here in the habit of not taking the keys inside, maybe you should consider changing this and start storing them in an inconspicuous place in your home. FYI, Granite Bay is one of the more affluent parts of the greater Sacramento metropolitan area (but it is technically Placer County and closer to Roseville/Rocklin/Folsom which are also some of the more affluent areas).
The S8 pictured below is the actual car.

that just pushed the s8 further into the top spot / most stolen car list.
13.2 thefts per 1000.....
insurance is gonna love that number.
