So we have an A6 in at work currently for some panel repairs, with the MMI 2G with Sat Nav.
The owner says that he imported the vehicle from the UK, and then spent $800 to get the Australian Maps put in.
My 06 A8 with Nav, didnt come with an original Nav disc, someone somewhere has put a copy in the car before I got it - which annoys me slightly as I dont know what Year / Version the maps are.
A8 Nav version
A6 Nav Version
The owner of the car is looking to upgrade to newer Nav version for the A6, both cars being 2G MMI, they should work in my car?
I dont want to buy these maps off him, if they will not work with my Unit.
Coming across the maps are not the cheapest at the dealer as we well know - and if i can get some that are not so out of date in comparison that would be good.
Are the maps in my car 2008 dated and the A6 2013 dated?
The 6 car has only been in the country for a couple of years the guy said.
Tested the disc in the car, and the maps from the a6 are def newer than what was in the a8.
The street i live on, now shows up/i can nav to my house haha

just get a new disc for both, in my experience the car usually have a CD one year less then it if it wass never upgraded....
so if you have a 2006 A8 is will have 2005/6 Nav
if you have a 2009 A6 it will have a Newer Map like 2009/10
you can use the newer Disc from A6 in the A8 or just get 2 new Disc
Where can one find the newest discs? I saw one on the Classifieds section here that was already bought.
For current version ones, dealer, including on line ones. Rest are pirated copies. You can find used on EBay for people selling disks where they traded up..or duped them...or sleazed them out of a used car, or... At least to look for a seller that looks legit, and a disk that looks legit and not glowing red.
Getting them from the dealer is cheap enough, there isn't a good reason not to.
Although I wouldn't classify $3-400 for an OEM dvd as "cheap enough".
Nav DVD updates are a racket. If they sold them for a sensible amount like $75, they'd actually make more money as more people would buy them and there wouldn't be a black market for them.
I'm seeing it listed at $250, which is cheap, if you compare it to buying a burnt disc off the internet that doesn't work. That, and there's the whole pirated copies are intellectual theft thing. I can't give the Chinese such a hard time for their blatant rip offs if I'm using burnt discs, now can I?
