There's no clean way to mount a phone where it's visible. I hate to muddle up a clean dash, the factory nav is for me the most desirable choice.

And they update for free all the time too, much more frequently than TomTom nav units etc!

I do like the factory integrated system, if it's there to start with I'll keep using it

Nav DVD updates are a racket. If they sold them for a sensible amount like $75, they'd actually make more money as more people would buy them and there wouldn't be a black market for them.

Greedy short sighted *******s if you ask me.
For the high price they charge they should not make them so easy to copy.

I've already updated the DVD once on my '05 A8L. If I do it again the disks will be running in 2nd place for "repair costs" on my car that has 102k on it.

This is from the AUDI erwin system.

only ONE free update per year after week 22
https://erwin.audiusa.com/erwin/performSearch.do#tab5

you need an erwin account to see this link

Customer navigation updates for MMI3G+ will be released once per year (usually around calendar week 22, but the date at which the update is available to the dealer may be later due to validation testing). For production, the navigation database will be updated twice per year (at approximately calendar week 22 and calendar week 45). The calendar week 45 map update in production will not be available as a customer-pay update for service (see reference table in the Service section of this bulletin).

That's nice, although of zero use for us D3 owners which came with MMI 2G.
