Default Seeking legal advice... Shill bidding on "no reserve" auction for ebay 2003 A8L.

Any advice? I bid on this car and now find out the seller's friend was padding up the bids and is the ultimate winner of the auction.

Default Yawn!! Paldi, I believe that ebay may have an action against these people

depending upon their rules and regs. There was no contractual agreement amongst you, the seller and ebay. What were your thoughts?

Default No real loss on my part since I wasn't bidding at the end -

however, since the shill buyer had made several bids earlier in the auction, I feel that contributed to my holding back. If I had done a "hail Mary" bid in the last minutes to try to win the car, I would seek the difference between my winning bid and the bid of the next highest bona fide bidder. I would seek damages against the shill bidder nd the seller. Punitive damages likely are available in Florida because of scams perpetrated against senior citizens there. Thank you for your thoughts, Mr. G.

Default Since the seller, via his friend's ebay password, was bidding against me -

I don't think auctionsniper would have helped me in this case. The last bid on the car, by the seller again, was likely way over what I was willing to pay. The seller essentially bought his own car back rather then let it go at a low bid price.

Thanks for the lead on Auctionsniper. You posted about this service awhile back and I've saved the link. :-)

http://esnipe.com/</a

Default Re: noob question: how do you Know for sure it was a shill...

Seller sent me a email admitting he used his friend to 'abort' the sale since the bids were less than he paid for the car and it was a no reserve auction. Said he couldn't cancel the sale himself because the power was out due to the hurricane - he had no computer link - he called his friend on the cell and had him make a high bid at the end and *buy* the car.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/74384.phtml</a
