serpentine engine belt, '07 A8

In this case...
If you look at the belt diagram on the rockauto site, it is actually very short compared to your typical Audi V motor. OP noted that as well. Not like the typical 4.2 port injected belt that wraps all over the place, or my W12 where it essentially goes back and forth across the engine a few times, plus wraps all kinds of stuff.

The serpentine belt on a FSI injected (07 and later) engine is very short, and only encompasses four pulleys. All accessories except the alternator are gear driven from within the engine on these cars. Also, chain drive for the cams.
And, I do know about the LONG serpentine belts, as the supercharged MB SL55 AMG has two of them. One for accessories, and one for the supercharger.

For those of you who have done this belt replacement in the 07+ models with FSI, were you able to change it from the hood area or did you have to change the belt from underneath? I was about to do this on mine, just would like someone who has done it tell me if it was possible to get it without going underneath.
Thanks

Dripppps, how many miles on yours when it went? Similar thing happened to my 05, tensioner went threw belt off, but didn't cause any further damage...that was at about 100K

Replaced belt today, my hands were not small enough to get it from the top, had to raise up car and remove belly pan to get it done. Really tight fit even from underneath.
