Test drove a 2004 A8L with 20k miles today. Experienced a "lag" during the 1 - 2 shift enough to be bothersome. Otherwise the car was wonderful. What am I doing wrong? Is it something in my footwork with the throttle that's confusing it? Or is it a learning mode thing that will correct itself over time?

There was a complete software update which apparently made the shifting of early '04s much smoother. When I had my '04 updated it made a big difference . . .

Is there any way to have it checked? Since the car was traded to a Benz dealer, doubt they have a clue!

Probably driving with giving it too much gas after it decides to shif. Kinda waits to see if I really want to go faster while it wants to shift. So it argues with me for 1/2 a second or two...

Try it in S (Sport) mode. It has completly different shift points. Also they can reset it to factory defaults so it begins to learn your patterns of accelerating.
