Should I stay away from the 04 A8s (first year cars)

Yes, don't plan to buy an 04-05 to retrofit it, doesn't really matter to me if its a facelift or not, or if it doesn't have this option or doesn't have that option, even if I have to buy an 04 to own a solid one so be it. Although I've never owned an Audi, I do know the expenses of owning a German luxury sedan and have owned arguably the worst one of them all, the E65 745i (2004).. and I usually tend to put money to the side just in case. High maintenance price is expected, and im prepared for it.

Couldn’t agree more. It all comes down to how well the car was cared for... for me at least that’s the biggest factor.

All A8s are reliable, it's just what you expect from a luxury car in 2019 when you start getting into it. Some people tend to buy cheap, broken ones thinking of having nice A8 without knowing how complex they are to fix or try to retrofit things ended up paying more and having headaches over them. It's always easy to buy, but hard to get rid off without losing money.

At this point, how it has been taken care of is a much bigger factor over the year difference, get the one that has the options you like and seems the best maintained!

Yup! I found the right car today... gonna test drive it on Monday! If all goes well driving it I’ll buy it for sure... it’s the cleanest A8 I’ve ever seen
