Since 35000 mile service S8 is averaging 20 mpg vs 16 before! Unless they have pulled ..

Default I suppose the theory that the fuel pumped in relates to 14.7:1 ratio for the .....
oxygen intake than you will always have unburnt fuel being wasted and this is proven by the fact that CATS work. If you could have a staged direct injection in a conical shape as the flame front travels through the compressed air then you may reach the exact complete burn and get no unburned HC's in the exhaust but that is next to impossible to acheive.
