It may be someting different than the MMI upgrade. I still have my 2006, at one of the early MMI versions but I don't need to pair the phone every time...

Sounds like your BT module is just a bad one. Mine will pair with no issue. You can probably find a BT module on ebay or a reman one at audipartsusa. I would have to do something if I had to pair it every time. Another option is a Denison gateway. The BT would go through your MMI and also have streaming and Ipod/ flash memory integration.
