Switched power lead near glovebox?
Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if there is a switched, 12-volt power lead near the glovebox on the 2006 A8 L? Everything I've found seems to be constant on; I need a switched source. I'm looking for any switched power lead that can supply about 150 mA of current.
Thanks,
-JT

Nathanwind found one and he never showed us where it is

There is a fuse panel to the right of the glovebox. Use a volt meter and find one that is not powered with the ignition off. Then turn on the ignition and see if it has power. When you find one, pull the fuse to verify the "fused " side and connect there. 150mA won't make a difference but you want to protect the car from a dead short.

I found one when I did the stereo bluetooth gateway install...but I seem to recall there was literally only 1 that was 12v hot. Let me see if I can figure out which, but as others pointed out you could also use a multimeter or testlight to find out as well.

Found the thread where I posted, but unfortunately I'm not near the car at the moment so I can't check. I seem to recall it was one of the top slots though:

I installed an auxiliary-in (aux) device, which goes in series with the fiber optic loop that the CD changer is on. That device uses the same power feed as the CD changer, and when the CD changer goes to sleep the aux device does as well, drawing only 9 mA while sleeping.
But I hooked up a Bluetooth device to the aux device, and the Bluetooth gadget doesn't go to sleep and draws around 150 mA, which is too high of a parasitic drain for a non-switched arrangement. Presently I'm powering that via the lighter socket and it gets unplugged when I park.
Note: The whole system works pretty well. My phone connects to the car's bluetooth connection for calls/microphone and to the aux device for all other audio, including navigation from the Waze app. Both bluetooth connections seem to be active at the same time (Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone).

I tapped off one of the CD changer power lines for a low current device, but I just checked and it was not switched.
Someone had posted previously a fuse to use for switched power and the fuse (with part number) which had a built in power lead. Someone just needs to look for this.

Previously I checked only the fuse slots that were open/unused. I ordered the fuse kit that Nathanwind linked to. Once I receive it I'll check all the fuse slots, including occupied ones, and then I'll report back with my findings.
