Default Timing belt or chain?

Does the '06 A8 have a timing belt and the '07 has a timing chain? If the '06 has a belt, what is the recommended replacement interval for it? TIA.

Default 99% yes

Yes on the 2006 vs. 2007. Change occurs at the same times as the switch to direct injection and higher resulting horsepower. Old 4.2 change interval spec was 90K miles, but Audi pulled that in to 75K miles as I recall more recently.

But all of this assumes the 99% case it is a 4.2. For the 1% smart aleck case--W12's in any year are always chain.
