Tire Size question
I have an A8 with 18 inch wheels (tire size: 255/45-18)... A friend of mine gave me a new set of 245/50-18 tires for free...
According to the tire size calculator below, there's not much of a difference, so would it be okay to mount those tires on my vehicle? Thanks

As long as all four, yes
That is a size sometimes used for snow tire fitments. You are giving up both some cornering and some traction.
That tire is actually very close in diameter to the 275/35 20's used on sports models, W12 upgraded wheel models, etc. (27.7" typically). Fills out the wheel wells a bit better and corrects some of the speedo errror seen on the 255/45 and other fitments that run more like 27.0". But to avoid quattro drivetrain issues, all four should be the same size.
This also assumes you have a typical 18" rim with an 8 or 8 1/2" width rather than something wider. 8 1/2" would be the typical basic cast five spoker on the D3.
