Tires for 20x10.5" wheels?
Hi!
I recently bought Incurve IC-S5 20x10.5" ET42 wheels for my D3, currently they have 245/30 tires mounted on, which are like rubber bands.
I´m looking at 265/35 or 275/30, and I will be lowering the car using links.
The 265/35 have a outer diameter of 27.2" and the 275/30 26.5".
The stock 19" wheels had 255/40-tires, which are 27" in diameter.
Any thoughts here?
Thanks/
Mattias

i recommend as wide as possible, just because this car can handle it, and because they are better if you hit a curb etc than narrow ones. 245 is way too narrow for a 10,5" rim, at least 265, but more likely 275.
I would go 275/35R20 tough, not 30. This is the stock size on 2008->. 2003-2007 stock size is 255/35R20.
I run 275/40R20, because they are way cheaper and MUCH more comfortable to drive, and less prone to breaking rims etc, and rubbing is minimal, in the rear only minor scratching on inner wheel liners face front, and in the front just barely touching the inner wheel liner front side.
My friend runs 255/35R20, and they are absolutely horrible to drive. He has cracked a tire 3 times in 5 summers, had several punctures, hits the car bottom like every second week on normal streets (we have exceptionally good streets here in southern Finland in the summer). I've had ZERO of these same problems in the same time with 5x his mileage. I've loaned his car a few times on the highway, and was afraid i cracked a tire at 120km/h when going over a bridge "gap" on the motorway.
Almost any size is acceptable, if you drive highway only and very little city, but i definetly recommed staying away from 30 series tires, no matter how wide they are, if you don't want to replace them 1-2 times a year.

Well, I still want to stay close to the stock tyre diameter, 275/40 is 28.7", that is SUV sizes we´re talking about.
Off topic; Last years summer, I spent a day at Gunnarsstrand in Hanko, beautiful place!

The wheels that came with my S8 were 10.5 x 21 with 295 x30 tires. The ride was a bit rough.
The wheel and tire combination on it now is from a 2013 S8, 275-35-21 tires.

I would go with 275/35R20 at the minimum. That is the stock size and imho, a minimal acceptable ride. I live in ATL where the roads are decent, depending on the side of town but I like the size.

I am looking at a set of 20's right now using the 18/19 inch = 27" tire diameter matching size which is = 255/35/R20. This is on a 10" rim. So yes your side wall is dropped. But the 255/35 tires didn't look too bad. I wouldn't go jumping curbs and you have to have spares on the ready imo. Like another wheel to swap on like now. So in that respect sticking to 27" is good thing.
BUT for a 10.5" rim, and to be reliable (not stretched) I would agree 265 or 275 for the weight of the car. You could protect your tires and rims by elevating the pressure but that would lose surface contact and make for a more jittery ride. The price of lookers.
I had 235/35 19's on the V8Q. Amazingly, the tires did make it to exhaustion but crikey the kids bent all 4 wheels and eventually flatted one outright. They took the car off road at times too. I threw the whole setup straight to tire shop recycle.

Just got back tonite from getting the following - all fit in the A8L "suv":
6x Niche 20" Circuit wheels, brushed face with black background. 2 are spares the owner kept in case any are damaged. Circuit - Niche Wheels
He also had a set of new Pirelli P zero take-offs from his A7, 255/35 R20, separate from the rims. I have to get it all mounted etc tomorrow, then storage until April or May.
Great guy. He had one spare 255/30R20 for his A5 that we test installed onto the A8. And while the rubber was a little lean the wheel looked great. Lowered the car and it all looked even better.
For that cool, low blown out stance, too much tire is not really a good thing. that is why these guys are stretching the heck out of tires onto phat rims.
