Transmission questions

While on the subject of what's normal for the 6-speed Tip, I get a pretty heavy clunk in the drivetrain when the car shifts down to stop or to a slow crawl in traffic. It "feels" like its coming from the rear differential or the AWD coupling. I'm assuming this is happening either as the tranny shifts between 3 and 2 or 2 and 1. This is as I slow up the car for heavy traffic right before coming to a stop. Anyone else have this? Car is 05 A8 SWB delivered September.

Interesting ... again, I'm a Phaeton owner.
When I'm in normal mode, I would call my transmission smooth as glass. Sure it shifts much quicker (5th at 30???) but without the gear numbers, I don't even think I could count the shifts except using the tach. Are we talking about excessive shifts of rough shifts? I assume we are talking not using the tip.
I also get the jump slowing in Sports mode (where I normall put it), but that woudl seem normal when downshifting to first. Typically in a manaual, I seldom to never downshift to first for just that reason.
