Trunk Issue

My trunk started acting up on me, with a possible sensor malfunction. The passenger side started showing a gap when closed (it still does). Now for the past 2 months, the trunk has had issues when opening and closing: it will open an inch, then auto close. 2nd or 3rd try will open it and sometimes go all the way up on it's own. The auto close feature won't work anymore. It goes down, won't latch and then go back up. About a month ago, the sensor would show open after the trunk was used and then the next time I started the car, it would show closed. Now, the sensor just stays on, showing open.
Motor issue? Strut issue? Sensor needs to be replaced? The hinge doesn't seem to be out of the norm. I measured both hinges and they measure the same. I even took the plastic cover off of the pass side hinge as there was evidence of rubbing, but that didn't do anything.
Thoughts?

Having the same problems with mine too. For whatever reason when it gets colder the hinges and trunk latch mechanisms get sticky.
Anyway, squirt some WD40 into the trunk lid latch mechanism, and put some regular 3-in-1 type oil into the catch/soft close mechanism on the chassis. Also lube all the hinge pivot points and you should be good to go for a while longer.
Worked for me anyway.

It's the latch assembly on the trunk. The part is under $75 and not to hard to install. The latch has the sensor that sticks usually. You might have to change the hinges as well if your trunk is tilted after closing. Try the latch first.
