Default Trunk Lid Sensor

My first electrical enigma on a '03 A8L: My trunk lights don't work on the my recently purchased car. I peeled back the liner on the trunk lid and discovered a wiring harness unplugged. Plugged it in and the lights came on. As I was re-installing the lid liner, the lights went off. I didn't think much of it, thought it was just a timer to save the battery. I closed the trunk several times and couldn't get the lights to come back on. Started it up, and the 'trunk open' indicator is on, which explains why the PO disconnected the light.

In my unofficial opinion, I think I have a bad sensor/switch/whatever-you-call-it that indicates the trunk is open/closed, but I can't find it. I thought it would be one or both of the spring-loaded pins on the lid that contact the frame, but there are no wires attached. My next thought was the spring-loaded plate at the latch, but I don't want to start disassembling more things. Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks.

It looks like it is part of the rear lid lock. Can be replaced only with the lock.

Thanks, Mishar. Guess I'll disconnect the plug and scour the junkyards.

In looking at the parts diagram for your 03 A8, I'd want to double check based off your vin # but the latch for your car is probably the 4F5827505D. I looked at it and it does have a 3 prong wire connection to it, directly on the latch as part of the plastic body. They are also popular sellers, so it's possible you aren't the only one with a problem like this.

It runs 42.00 plus shipping. Any questions please ask. Thank you, Jeff.

I talked to Jake at AudiUSAParts a couple of days ago and ordered one. I like your price better, though. He quoted me about $58. (He did look up my VIN).
