I think you may be seeing the "suspension malfunction" yellow warning which uses the same "jack mode" warning light on the dash. Could be what I had last December, Blown 40 amp fuse that disabled the suspension. A real pain to get to. See my previous posting here about the ordeal as well as my picture poster showing why it took me an hour just to get to the silly fuse.
After the new fuse blew within a minute, it confirmed that the compressor motor was defective ($1500 for parts & labor to have dealer replace). VAG diagnostics will give you a good confirmation. Something like: "suspension power missing or short to ground".
You can also verify this without diagnostics if MMI shows you're not in jack mode AND when you go to suspension settings if all adjustable modes (normal, dynamic, lift etc.) are grayed out. Plus, car rides like crap. You'll want to avoid much driving over poor surfaces and a lot of weight in the car if there is no air in the suspension so you don't damage the air springs.
I drove mine on decent roads, 25 miles to the dealer after I replaced the fuse myself. No damage done to the suspension. At the time, I wasn't sure if it was the compressor although I had a feeling it was. I was pressed for time with the holiday season and all and I had a long trip coming up so I paid the dealer to replace it. Next time I'll do it myself.
I even have a spare compressor for the next time it fails!
Just the other day I posted a link to the engineering drawing of the air suspension (ECAS-Electronically Controlled Air Suspension) compressor assembly on the WABCO Automotive website. WABCO make the compressor for Continental-Teves who sells it along with their air springs to Audi.
