unimpressive seat

I test drove a 2006 A8L last weekend was not at all impressed with the feel of the seat. I am now driving my fifth Audi (1999 A8) and I have allways thought the Audi's had the most comfortable seats on the market, until now. Allways much better than friends Mercedes E and S class and no comparison to the big floaters in the Lincoln/Cadilac. Am I just getting old. It seems they cut the depth of the seat cushion down to get more headroom - why not just raise the roof and leave the best seat in the market alone. That's my take, feel free to disagree.

I don't have any issue with the seat and I'm 6'4", 230lbs. I'm not sure that it's remarkably more comfortable than any other luxury car though. My Q45 felt just as nice but the Audi has a lot more side bolster support which makes it feel like the seat wraps around you. I like that. Reminds me of my old V6 SHO.

I've logged over 60,000 miles on my '04 and I bought it used with 56k on the clock. I disagree and feel that the seats are very comfortable. Did you sit in the passenger seat? Maybe the previous owner somehow damaged the driver's seat.

The D3 seats are one the most comfortable car seats I've ever experienced.
Back when I had the 2004 4.2 with the bench rear, I drove a four of my friends to Santa Cruz to visit a common friend that had moved out there. When we arrived, they commented about how surprisingly comfortable the seats were even towards the end of the 3 1/2 hour drive.
I even ended up having to sleep in the drivers seat once. To my surprise at the time, I felt great when I woke up.

Unfortunarely Volvo makes the most comfortable seats. The Phaeton has excellent seats also, and maybe other cars as well that I have not sat in yet. But not A D3 A8 with the seat we get here in the US.

I think the comfort seats are pretty awesome and have no problem finding a position good for a full day of driving. Overall though I'd hold the dynamic seats of the most recent S-class and also the E60 BMW comfort seats sligthly higher since I'm pretty skinny and sometimes lack side support from my current seats.

I read in another thread (A8 vs. 750i), featherpillow did not like his A8 because of the seat and a host of other things but is really happy with his S8. Does anyone know if the seats would be different. The chances of me finding a S8 close enough to home for a test drive are not good.
