If it plays a few seconds, then cuts out, then plays again, it could be the component protection software on the unit that needs to be 're calibrated' which can only be done, I think, by a main dealer. Is that it or something else? Could be that the optical loop that controls it needs diagnosing/repair.

I took it to Audi's who removed the CP but sadly says cd error. The guy I bought it off from on ebay, is refusing a refund
I am not having much luck at the moment lol.

His VCDS scan shows:
02446 - Disk Drive Mechanical Malfunction
014 - Defective - Intermittent

Hope I didn't send you down a rathole buying a new battery but that 6v freeze frame seems odd !
Like you said it can't hurt if you don't know for sure how old it is.
One guy in another forum claims his AC works better after replacement.
On the upside we have seen a lot of weirdness go away once a new battery is fitted.

That said, there are far more knowledgeable folks here than me.
Also since you have a genuine VCDS might be worth a go to contact Ross-Tech directly for some support

When I scanned it with VCDS, it just said CP where as the other changer I bought said mechanical fault as well as CP. Surely I can't have been so unlucky to get 2 duff changers?
The changer number is 4E0 035 110 and I am hoping I have not messed up and got the wrong changer?
I tried a google search for compatability but no joy...
