I know. It is part of outdated engineering. My phone does that perfectly if I plug mu ear with that Seven of Nine thing. I just hate it (like everything else on this rainy day ) But Speech Module was very cheap. It won't be anymore if I have to go to a dealer.

Default FWIW, I have it and just ignore it

Yet another set of crypto and fairly inflexible stilted commands and steps to remember. I just press buttons, spin MMI wheel and all is fine. Old (and practical) school I guess.

Voice control is a waste of time if you ask me. Pressing a button is way quicker, more reliable and less frustrating. Even Siri on my iPhone 5 is a load of rubbish and that's the best you can get, let alone the decade old tech in an A8. Same goes for the iPod and telephone interfaces. Clunky, old hat and distracting rubbish that takes forever to navigate vs using the device's own far far superior interface.

To remove Component Protection dealer should not charge more that 1 hour labor. I was told it takes them less than 5 minutes to hook up and remove Component Protection if they know what they are doing.

For what it's worth, I use mine on a daily basis. The phone and navigation commands are pretty handy.

When you get to use it, you love it... easier than looking through all the directory to look for the names or addresses.

Cheers,

Louis

All I need is a duct tape and I'll have AMI, NAVI, Voice Command, ... even phone.

I like it! I look forward to the moment car manufacturers realize that they're wasting huge amounts of everyones time and money developing in car media systems that are still hopeless in comparison to what a $200 smart phone can do. They simply cannot keep up with the pace the tech moves on so it quickly becomes outdated and not worth updating due to the massive expense involved.

All that's needed is a touch screen that mirrors the screen on the phone, a microphone and audio connection. The whole lot can be run by the phone/tablet which is totally updatable and replaceable as they improve. Vehicle specific functions could either be handled by a simple inbuilt system or a downloadable app.

Until then everyone is wasting their time and money with half assed junk incar media systems.

You still have to assign names. It's a pain in the but if you ask me. Using it for navigation is next to useless. All I like it for is selecting tracks on CDs
