Default Wanted to introduce myself and my D3 S8

Bought this S8 a week ago. Couldn't be happier with the deal I got.

There are a couple of problems that need addressing. Namely, the sunroof frame seems to be cracked/broken. Is this a common problem on these cars? Also either the trunk lift motor is shot or the shocks are old and depressurized. I need to nudge it to open it.

The sunroof needs love first, though. It pops and grinds and has trouble moving so I am leaving it alone for now.

I hope to be able to contribute as much as I can to this online community. I love this car!

Welcome!

Your sunroof may just need cleaning and oiling. Be sure to clean all four drains in order to prevent a costly flood.

You didn't say what year is she. Older ones, I believe before 2007, have a poor trunk opener motor. Only way to fix it is to change it for the newer one. Part number is the same but the new one ends with H and it is all aluminum instead of plastic.

If you plan to do things yourself, perform some cool changes, or even just to know what is wrong before dealers rip you off, buy Ross-Tech VCDS and Bentley manual.

Enjoy. It is a great ride.

Sunroof frame was cracked in my 2009 S8 when I purchased it. Luckily, it was covered by factory warranty. Dealer had to remove the entire headliner to replace it. Took 2 days. =(

First S8 in the states was the MY 2007. Looking at the circular fog lights as well as the turn signals on the side panel (instead of the mirror), this is a '07. In 2008, Audi performed a facelift, which as far as I know:

1) Increased stability at high speeds
2) Improved the air suspension
3) Added chrome inserts to certain areas of the interior
4) Made the side mirrors larger with integrated turn signals
5) Redesigned the fog lights
6) Redesigned the tail lights

did not involve 1 or 2. It was generally cosmetic, covering things in the latter part of the list above, plus revised rear headrests, more sound insulation, optional lane change/side avoidance, some grill slat detailing and other bits.

"The A8's rack-and-pinion steering, featuring a variable steering ratio and Servotronic power assist, has been optimized for a more direct feel. The car's adaptive suspension has been retuned, with the system's electronically controlled variable dampers fitted with new seals to reduce friction. The suspension also employs new valves and updated hydraulics -- all in an effort to further smooth out the luxo sedan's already impressive ride."

I have a Bentley manual for my R32- definitely buying one for the S8. Good info on the motor. I will try to source one and replace it. I found a thread that shows it's a pretty easy job.

The sunroof frame is definitely cracked. Looks like it's going to need replacing. Not excited to see how much that'll cost.

Are there any other common issues for which I should look? Any sites with good info besides this one?

Default 2004-2010 same... right?

Hi Mishar, not to belabor this, but I thought like you that all A8/S8 Air Springs were the same just the sport in the S8 and the sport or non sport in the A8, But like Sccpmusc26 stated in his #2 comment a change in the 2008 air strut, Jim Ellis Audi shows the 4E0616040AF for the 2003 to 2007 And the 4E0616040AH is for 2008 to 2010, So was there a change in design ?

EDIT: But then again Jim Ellis Audi is showing the 2 above part numbers as also for the S8 and as those part numbers are for non-sport struts, thats bad info, But then shows the 4E0616040AJ for years 2003 to 2010 A8/S8 and that is a sport strut....

I need a drink....

Different part number indicates some change in design. Could be anything from a single seal change to a complete redesign, but I find it irrelevant for this tread, if we are to help OP. Not highly relevant in general. I don't think anybody is going to upgrade his struts, or it could be a deal breaker when buying an A8.

Sorry, a bit grumpy this morning.
