i was looking to bid on this D3 last week, because the bidding seemed fair for the car and he didn't have a reserve price.
i contacted him prior to the end of the auction, when the car was still in the upper $18-$19k range, to inquire about a little detail.. and he shot me back an email saying he was surprised the car was still bid low and he had paid "many thousand of dollars more" than the current NO RESERVE price.
well, needless to say as the end of the auction approached the price shot up from $20 to $26k, and by 2 bidders with ZERO feedback
i knew this was a SHILL bid by this guy, to pump up his pricing... he emailed later and of course denied it.
well guess what... the A8 showed back up on ebay yesterday... this time with a reserve price of $28andChange
i emailed him again, wondering what happened to the winning bid.... needless to say, he has NOT responded.

...you're right to be wary. And I would ask for an explanation of what happened in the prior auction.
But that type of stuff happens to me a lot. Bidding runs up at last minute, winner flakes out, 2nd and 3rd bidders do not respond, so back up it goes.
Do you need help finding a nice one at a good price? Let me know.
Bruce
