Interestingly the IMSA and DTM quattro track racers were secretly switched over to clutch type LSD's in place of the Torsen units audi heavily marketed at the time.
This was because as previously mentioned all drive is lost if one wheel or axle is in the air, which on a track car bouncing over curbs is a surprising amount of time. The clutch type LSD cars were quite a bit quicker as they still put power down even if one wheel or axle was in the air.

Problem with clutch type LSD's is that they require force in order to actuate clutches, so certain torque to be transferred to the wheels. It's OK while racing under power, but once stacked in snow absolutely necessary smooth action doesn't create enough force to engage clutches.
