I have Audi A8, 2007, 4.2 FSI. Steallership is recommending Castrol 5W-30 synthetic oil.
For some reasons I do not like Castrol at least I do not trust that brand (just personal opinion). Does anyone know if Mobil 1 or Valvoline meets Audi requirements?
Thanks a lot!

Actually, the Castrol Synthetic 5w30 that is produced in Germany(have a look on the back of the bottle is actually far superior than the regular Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30. Have a look online at the compostion of results. Forget the website but will post if it comes to mind.

Either:
Mobil 1 0W-40, but NOT other viscosities of Mobil 1. Only that one meets VW 502 and 505 specs (unlike others like 5W-30 or 0W-30)--I'm just abbreviating the numbers to three digits; they are actually five with a decimal entry after them. AND, it meets the less common 503 spec that is the extended drain interval one. These specs have since become 504 and 507. Extended drain suggests it has longer lived additive packages. Merc. and BMW have similar long life specs.
Castrol 0W-30 European formula. Meets the same specs as the Mobil 1 OW-40. Turns out Audi specs 0W-30 for the W12 in Europe, at the 503 spec level. Has to say "European Formula" on the bottle or you haven't found the right one (and, it is still indeed imprted from Germany). Sold here only by Autozone among the chain stores AFAIK.
There is also a Castrol 5W-30 branded as SLX Professional that also meets (the now current) 504 + 507 (and the BMW LL03) specs that you find only occasionally (ECS has it on line). This is NOT at all the same as the 5W-30 Castrol Syntec stuff you find at the parts store.
Price wise, Kragen/Checker/O'Reilly has been selling the various Mobil 1 viscosities in recent months in the $5/qt range, so it is easily the cheapest of the full synthetic bunch.
I'm still on the extended CPO maintenance deal, so I only do an occasional in between change on the W12. I opt for the lighter or heavier viscosity choice depending on which primary season (hotter vs. colder) it will be in the following 6 months. Typically have used the Mobil 1 0W-40 in the C5 4.2.

Also saw this, was hoping it is a good oil compatible with our A8's as it is at a great price at wally world or at auto stores too. It is Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 full synthetic oil. Mind you it comes in a gallon jug (4 quarts god I wish the US used metric like everyone else) not five like the mobil 1 and castrol. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...T|GRP2046_____ Read good reviews online but was wondering if you had any experience/ insight?
Thanks guys
