What oil brand do you use in your A8?

As far as Rotella (especially the T6 variant) being "truck oil," that's actually a pretty good thing- especially if you want to run an extended drain interval. Unlike all the modern car oils, the diesel oils still have quite a bit of ZDDP in them (good for bearings, bad for cats), and, being designed to keep diesel soot in suspension, tend to deal quite well with extended drain intervals.

Rotella T6 is primarily designed for Diesel engines. That means it has additives to deal with sulfur acid, product of burning Diesel fuel (way less with recently adopted standard for NA). It is also API SM rated, so good for gas engines too. Even better if one is a truck driver and it comes really cheap. ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I am using Red Line 0W-40, but I am positive that any modern oil will do.

I have been doing my own oil changes on the A8 since I've owned it, about 3yrs. Always used Castrol Edge 5w-40. Have to admit, an oil change in this car is a major pia! Glad there is a 7-8k increment!

I thought the interval is 10,000 miles.
Rotella, with limited choice of weights is usuallu cheap in 5 gallon pails at Costco and Sam's.
For a better selection; one need only to staop at a Pilot/Petro/Flying J truck stop and peruse the selection in the Trucker's store. Problem with Rotella is that although I did find either a 0W-40 or 5W-40 weight, it did not have either VW designator so I stayed away. I've been using Total lately instead of Valvoline and Volle.

I've read through all these posts about oil and I don't see AMSOIL mentioned. Am I the only one that uses it? They offer a 5W-40 Euro Blend that meets Audi's API standards and as a "Preferred Customer" it comes out to about $5.75/qt.
I don't miss changing oil on my old A8L. That was a PIA compared to the S8. After the belly pan is removed, there's one allen screw drain plug way at the front of the engine and the filter cap unscrews at the firewall. The filter cartridge is lifted straight out the top. Couldn't be easier. Drain, set a new cartridge in the filter chamber then fill'er up with 10.6 qts -- done!....it also helps to put the drain plug back in.

Lol well the reason I don't use it is because it is very very expensive! Without your preferred discount lol, mind sharing it with me? Happen to know where the filter is on a w12 by chance?

Ha ha, well at risk of pissing off the non-vendor police I can say that becoming an AMSOIL preferred customer takes all of 10 minutes + $20/yr. Sign some forms and voila' -- you too can be a preferred customer. I run their stuff in everything I own -- even the lawn mower. I've read quite a bit of their performance studies and they seem to have a superior friction protection product.
W12 oil filter location??? Got me....
