Clean the wiper edge. Straight rubbing alcohol on a rag--if you get a lot of black on the rag, you are onto something, and maybe the wiper is geting past its prime even if it is supposedly new, particularly if it doesnt feel pliable and smooth.
Really clean the glass--like with solvents. Rubbing alcohol, acetone (be really careful w/ the paint and the fumes...), etc. If you have something on there, the wipers may not ever cut trhrough it. Also, consider your solvent. I use a home brew of 20/20 windshield cleaner, some 93-99% rubbing alcohol and distilled water. You can buy Audi OEM too; ecs sells it.
The opposite, but first try really cleaning the wiper and glass as the fix. RainX the windshield swept area. I don't like to do this in the swept area (sometimes I do it at the edges though) because it tends to make the wipers chatter over time in my experience, but it should definitely clean up your winter visibility.

experience it is better than RainX and does not produce residue. It also lasts at least 6 months in NE weather. My passenger side blade on my 4 month old A8 does not sweep with the force of the driver's side blade. It is not so bad that I have felt compelled to make a special trip to the dealer yet. Maybe it is just a design flaw. It is actually the only problem that I have noted on the car yet except the annoying tone I sometimes get when calling from the iPhone that I have paired.
