Guys,
We got these great tires 6 months ago and followed the rec tire pressure 36/38 psi front/rear. It feels a bit stiff compared to the pirellis but still quiet, smooth, and better handling. The tire pressure is 36 all around at 40 degrees outside right now. Should I go down to 35 or 34 psi to make the ride more comfortable??? I have done this on other cars when I switch out tires to a tire that last longer but has a stiffer compound to it. Let me know if you have those Yokohama Advan S4 and what tire pressure you are using.

i got em this summer and also did try the nitrogen
offered by my local tire guy.
i set them at the 38F/36R recommended level.
as the weather cooled (i guess thats why)
they have dropped to around 36/34, but have stayed there
very consistently. i find these levels comfortable.

Ok, then that's exactly what I run. My '04 came with a set of Advan S4 tires (255/40R19). I run them at 38-39 psi (cold) all around from spring to fall and I try to run them at 36 psi (cold) in the winter.
My winter experience with these tires has been less than stellar, though. IMO, the winter traction is barely acceptable and was noticeably worse on the '04 than the previous generation Yokohama Avid on my '97 D2. They do have decent traction the rest of the year, though.

so one day after i post,
i took the car to audi for a service
and remembered at last minute to get
the tires rotated, so sure enough
the car comes back with 42/40 pressure.
i'll have to knock it down, i forgot
to tell them what to do, the mooks.

So having it at 36F/34R made the ride more comfortable than having it higher? The Yokos are made of harder compound than the OEM Pirellis so it transmit a bit of road feel the rear on the highways that have some irregularities in them. So I assume that dropping the rear pressure to 34 PSI cold will do the trick.

I looked at the manual and it says 36F/33R under normal load and 38F/36R under heavy load. The door jamb says 38/36 but doesn't say 36/33 at all and so I brought the pressure down from 37 all around to 36/34 and it made it much better and I will stick with this pressure during the winter months and increase it a bit during the summer.
