Picked up the 2012 A8L today---no topview camera system as suspected. Not a problem since so there's so much else about the car that's good. I'm sure those who get the 2013's with this option will like it as I've seen it on BMW's and it's a good, but not necessary, feature.
BTW, I think the better camera utility is the one I've been seeing on TV ads where when the rear camera comes on and the car stops itself before you can hit the brakes, if someone/something crosses the car from behind.
