As you would expect, a quick search on Autotrader yields countless 2015 D4’s on the market - and at deep discounts to replacement I might add. So my question is this: with the D5 still out there and no delivery dates in the near term, where are these people going? Are they leaving or staying with the brand?

Probably all over map. Most common will be same trend as in market: turning in and switching to SUV, whether Audi or otherwise. My CPO was a turn in for a new model Q7 in 2017. If higher end luxury wanted and sort of sistered to that still, maybe a Cayenne.
In CA in many cases w/ many German luxobarges it will be for a likewise high priced Tesla. Might be a Panny as maybe closest thing to an S8 right now. Given C7s are all switching to C8's, it is an awkward time for Audi, because sometimes folks alternate between those platforms with one or other changing generations, a mid life facelift, etc.
Goes back to further mismanagement of the D5 intro. If I were Audi top management I would fire the folks involved. Of course that was them, so, hmmm. Actually, TDI debacle aside, many of them have been fired--and most recent CEO still in lock up in Germany. May be a further part of the problem with many others scared to step out front.

If the new car dosent arrive by November then I will purchase my 2015 A8.
I'm not with the high tech stuff.
Next year in April the A8 V8 will be in according to Audi Media.
2015 A8 is an awesome car no problems just brake job about it.
oil change that's it.
Other people are switcing.to another brand.
my friend told me he switched to 2018 BMW 430 and he made a mistake should of stood with the audi.
Personal choice brother.
