Seems strange. I wonder why they did all the redesigns instead of remove. Since my third party (Audi branded) warranty covered mine at 80k mi, I went with just what Audi just planned to do with the new screen. Hopefully the new screen works sufficiently better.

Because Audi operates like a company with engineers. They need to supersceed the part, not just eliminate it... Regular people would just ditch the screen and move on.
If you are worried about turbo failure I would also suggest 5K OCIs. I do 5K OCI on all VAG cars and it is cheap peace of mind.

that's like removing your AC filter in your house because it gets clogged up with dust and allergens. lol
not really tho. Your oil system already has a filter that does that for you. Regular oil changes will keep the oil clean. Unless you have other problems cause metal in the oil. But at that point, you have more expensive problems than some turbos.

in your analogy, I would think of the oil screen as someone having another filter at each vent in their house.

of course I could be really wrong 🤣

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. The 4.0L engine has an oil bypass to increase oil flow at high RPMs/loads. This oil bypass is why the screen is there.

What oil do you guys use? Would 5K changes really help? I can attach my oil analysis PDFs from my oil changes if helpful.

any literature on this? Because that makes no since at all.
the oil bypass valve should only open if the filter becomes to clogged up.

There is no bypass for the screen, you are correct.

.
The bypass is for the oil filter, not the screen...

yes we know. But that guy was saying that the oil bypass will bypass the filter when at high rpm’s. Which is nonsense.
not sure why anyone would think the screen would get bypassed.
he brought that up when I suggested to just remove the screen all together
