Default 2014 - Audi S8 - Turbo Failure - 32,000 Miles

I recently picked up an awesome looking 2014 Audi S8 that only had 32,000 miles. Through research, I had also learned that the pre turbo screen/filter recall was official! Learned that the service had not been done on my new used car, while also learning that two different Audi dealers (Denver and Omaha) were not able to do the service because they still don't have the list of parts for it.

I bought the car anyways, started to drive home on a 450 mile trip. 300 Miles in, car died. EPC warning light was on .... nothing else. Let the car sit for 15 minutes or so, reset the light, started car again ... same thing happened, miss-firing and stalling out, ECP on again. Towed the car the next 150 miles (Flatbed) Took it to Audi Omaha.

Apparently, a coil pack was bad, they recommended replacing all of them due to their age, I did. Through test driving, they also found that my driver side turbo was blown. I pushed the service advisor to do something about the screen, heck, even if replacing it with the same one for now, because I was assuming the one there probably was gunked up after 32,000 miles ..... nope. They wouldn't touch it, instead, charged audi like $4,200 to replace the turbo.

Now, I'll probably be back soon, maybe with two blown turbos that are all under warranty ...

Hey, although I'm glad they owned up and finally made the recall official while also extending the warranty to 10 years and 70,000 miles on the turbos, but what a nightmare to have the care "Down" waiting for parts and service.

Hopefully, I can get the updated screen soon, so that I can feel more comfortable getting a stage 1 tune from either APR or Unitronic.

.
You should probably gotten Audi corporate involved. I'm pretty sure they would see the economy in replacing your screen while the dealer was in there, considering they will need to do it in a matter of months anyway. It's also surprising that they haven't mandated screen replacement with turbos at this point, considering that there is already a TSB on it.

Both dead at 77000km. Took the car to the shop because of a suspension noise, and left with a message of two dead turbochargers. All sorted now, though!

Also - did ANYONE receive the official recall/TSB/Warranty letter yet from Audi USA yet? I confirmed my Canadian VIN is in the USA systems, but no 'fix instructions' have been released yet..

What a nightmare! Way to keep it positive, I'm sure getting such a low mileage car will be worth it once this is fixed.

The G revision with the coarse mesh was released around 2017. It’s now the only version available. This is the part that fixes the problem.

Does the car seen livelier to you after the change? Mine seems like a brand new, very very responsive beast of a car now. It wasn't a slouch before, it's just so much livelier now...

Maybe they quietly changed a failing turbo...?

.
That was a bit tongue-in-cheek, of course, but it sounds like they did something else in addition to the screen. Plugs? If the car lost performance because of a clogged screen, It's a one way street.
