Are there many 3.0T gas models here? Did not know these existed until I trolled various pre-owned Audi's since my Q5 TDI was reviled by the EPA.

I have one and am extremely happy with the torque the engine has. I bought a 2016 left over and only have 2,000 miles on it...It is more than adequate for me.

I have spoken with multiple Audi techs about the supercharged 3.0 and all have said it is one of the best engines Audi makes. Low maintenance cost and excellent longevity. I like mine a lot too. Did not expect to like it as much as I do.

s/c 3.0T
I agree with the techs and your assessment as well. I had an '11 S4 3.0T tuned tracked it and the engine was amazing to drive, one of the best and fastest I ever had. The s/c makes allot of performance.

It is one of the most reliable motors made in the Audi line
The power in the 4.0T is amazing but APR is producing some very powerful numbers from the 3.0T. I’ve only driven it in a S4 and A6. Not sure how much different it drives in the A8 tho.

I believe the A8 has about 20 more HP in the stock tune. Lots can be had with the APR tune. I plan to tune mine towards the end of my cpo. When speaking with a few tuning shops lots of good reviews for the 3.0 handling the extra power without issues as well. Biggest suggestion is upgrading the intercooler to help with the heat. The twin turbo V8 obviously can produce a lot more power and it is a good engine but will be more expensive to maintain and there have been a few more issues with these motors. They are more complicated and harder to work on. Gotta pay to play. Transmission is the same between the two engines.

3.0T probably will not be rated as a "performance" vehicle for insurance like a 4.0T probably is and certainly an S8. That may be single biggest somewhat non-obvious cost of ownership delta. I think ins. co's have gotten more savvy though that basically anything aluminum has high average claims, and fancier cars have more expensive gadgets, sensors, etc. If so, may not be such a big spread. When in doubt, get your ins. agent to quote one vs. the other to see if it has a big impact.
