ACC - is it really 2.5 MPH increments?
When I have drove a few A8's I set the cruise control with the adaptive function on and when you hit raise or lower it's 2.5 MPH increments that are on the money, i.e. 55, 57.5, 60, 62.5, etc.
On my D3 S8, it had ACC and it was the same. I really didn't like that. I was in my friend's SQ5 while in Texas and it's 1 MPH increments.
Do I have this right that it's 2.5 increments?
If you turn off the adaptive cruise control and use regular cruise control, is it 1 MPH increments? My 08 A8L has regular cruise control and it's 1 MPH increments.
Thanks.

Yes it is only 2.5 increments, one of my dislikes about the system. The only way to get an exact increment less than 2.5 is to go that exact speed and hit the set button. Around here the officers have generally followed the "9 you're fine - 10 you're mine" philosophy, so I always shoot for 79 in a 70 and I go by them without even slowing a bit. Never a problem.
As far as I am aware the ACC can not be turned off. If the car is optioned with it there is no "dumb-cruise" mode. Maybe it is possible to code it but I haven't seen it. In general I'm happy with the operation of the ACC in most traffic situations so it isn't a huge hardship, but those people who pass you on the freeway and then get over directly in front of you when there is no one behind them can all kiss my ***.
Another thing I don't care for is that you cannot read the exact speed that the cc is set on in the instrument cluster, except for a few second after you initially set or adjust it. You can read the LEDs around the speedo, but that won't give you the exact setting.

I thought I saw an option in the MMI to turn off the ACC system and convert it to normal cruise control when I looked at one of the cars I was looking at, but can't remember.

Yes, 2.5. if you change the ACC system into a European coding, I think it will actually be 5MPH increments. It does allow for ACC to be set as high as 150MPH however.
It's meant for you to give the system a rough idea of the speed you want to travel at and it will fine tune to the traffic around you. Trying to fight that concept is just going to leave you frustrated.

Mine is a 2014 UK spec facelift car and it uses 5mph jumps as did my previous 2011 car and also my D3 W12 I think?
Four A8’s ago I used to drive a 1998 Ford Scorpio that had normal cruise control and that used 1mph jumps.
Thinking back those 1mph jumps were too small requiring 5 taps just to increase speed by 5mph.
On my current car those 5mph jumps seem too coarse so maybe 2.5mph is about right?
Just sayin’

There is no "regular" cruise control BTW for mine. It's ACC or none. Was same on my D3 W12 with ACC--as in, no "ACC off" type setting, even via VCDS mod (that doesn't exist AFAIK).
