WHAT IS THE ISSUE AND WHAT WILL AUDI DO?
Some customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the shift quality of the transmission...while moving from a stop, between gears, or at low speeds. A software update for the ECM and the TCM will be performed to help improve shift quality. This update will be performed at no cost to you.


All of you 2011 A8 owners will undoubtably receive this in the mail in the very near future.

Would rather they address the awkward shift lever function going from D to P. have had a couple of instances where I thought I got the car into P, but it stopped at R with the car moving backward. Luckily no body was walking behind the car.

I hate the shifter action. I wish there was more of clear detente between gears. I've had my car in reverse when I wanted it in park several times just as you described.

But for the love of God, I wish they would add an option to start the car with the radio off.

I got the letter today. It also mentioned replacing sunroof wind deflector to reduce wind noise.

The Subject Header specifies "2011 Model Year A8" and the 2012 model year is not mentioned.

Received my letter on the shift complaint, but it made no mention of the sunroof deflector fix. Had a nice day here in WA yesterday, and I opened the sunroof for the first time. Wow -- what a racket. Felt and sounded like I was inside a subwoofer with heavy base rap music. Anyone else have that unpleasant experience? Can't believe that Audi would let a car out of the factory with that defect!
