Is it possible to do any data tethering from a cell phone for a 2012 A8? I have seen a few posts that have been tested on other models but didnt know about the A8

Technically, yes. Practically, no.

Why wouldn't it be practical? BTW this is the only way to allow for Google maps on non-US vehicles. For example, Canadian vehicles don't come with a slot for sim card, hence setting up a hotspot is the only way to allow this. Take a read through the following

I have read that thread before. If you find that a perfectly acceptable solution, I see no reason why it won't work in an A8, so by all means, go for it. The extra hardware and fiddling in VCDS required is what I was referring to as impractical, but it's subjective.

I suppose "impractical" is a very subjective term. This level of work is low on my scale and the positives far outweigh the detractors. But to each his own
