[QUOTE= - - - - Even then, it may be difficult to detect because the system is supposedly turning the wheels without moving the steering wheel. - - - -
My wife and I spent the last two mornings at the Fernley Raceway (near Reno) to see if we could detect the Dynamic Steering at work. We could not, not really.
We had an instructor who was also curious (after I sent him some reading material). We had the tract all to ourselves. The second day we also wetted some patches and work on the skip pad, wet and dry. We also took our Acura with SH-AWD for comparison, albeit an RDX.
To start with, the 2012 A8L would but is difficult to budge. We tried slalom, avoidance maneuver while breaking, etc. The tires would break loose at hard breaking on sharp turns and, of course, on the skip pad. The behavior is predominantly understeering. (All was done under 60 mph per raceway rules.)
The Sports Diff can be felt, but not for certain and without any sensation of a sudden kick. Dynamic Steering, in terms of float correction, was not felt. Perhaps this is how it's suppose to work !?
In any case, the performance envelop of the car is way broader than my profile (and certainly my wife's) of ability, endurance and courage. It is good to know.
