Slightly off the wall idea here but was thinking about fitting a dash cam and then thought I wonder if it would be possible to hack the software so that you could use the front facing camera to act as a dashcam and record onto the HDD. Thoughts...?? Don't shoot me down too hard...

ready... aim, FIRE
just kidding
That actually isn't a bad idea at all. However, I wonder how useful that feature would be with the existing camera resolutions which is wide angle and low (made for driving below 15Mph.) You will need to replace with a much higher resolution cam to utilize any useful recording.

The Cadillac CT6 does this with its on-board cameras (both front and rear) - though to me, a far more inferior car in other aspects (vs the A8L), so not having a built-in dash cam was a trade-off I was more than happy to make.
