Default Need help with factory Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) Retrofit

Hello AudiWorld,

I just completed retrofitting factory rear seat entertainment (RSE) on my 2013 A8L 4.0T. Thanks to the guide provided by macmann, everything is straightforward. The only difficult part was to run wires in the rear center console because there wasn't enough room.

Anyhow, everything has been completed and component protection has been removed too (thanks to my local dealership who was kind enough to "reset" all my VCDS mods...). Everything, including radio, media, and navigation, works perfectly fine from both the front and rear units. However, the only issue I still have is that I get fault code "03157 - Functionality limited due to Communications Disruption" in both 5F and 7F. Note that I did not install DVD charger since my car did not have one from the factory, so I suspect this might be the issue that caused the fault code.

Can anyone share their thoughts on that? Also, can anyone who has RSE in their A8 please share their coding for 7F? I really appreciate the help. And if anyone interested I will consider writing a complete DIY guide for RSE retrofit.

Best regards.

costed me around $1800 USD including mostly used parts, a few new parts, and dealer visit for component protection removal. If you are in Europe then it may cost you less since there are more options to purchase the parts.

Cheers mate. I think I will keep an eye out for parts as I cannot justify £1500 for something I won’t use myself.

Can you please share the 5F/7F coding. I'm told my units require recording but the dealership wants to replace them and then recode. They're talking $7,000.

Thanks a lot.. Appreciate the help. The radio seems to work fine but media always shows as loading and the navigation only loads to 99%. I refuse to spend $7k for something I may be able to solve myself.
In your original post you asked for 7F module coding. Not sure if you still need it but here is where my 7F module is currently coded as.

Oddly my car had similar issues when I retrofitted RSE. My car didn’t have RSE originally. The retrofitted unit came from a 2012 W12 and after installed in my car (2013 4.0t) the Navi and Media couldn’t be loaded. It turned out that the unit had older software and map data from 2012 while mine was updated to 2019. So at the end, updating MMI software and map data solved my issue and now everything works as they should. I still get a fault “Functionality limited due to Communications Disruption” but it doesn’t seem to affect functionality.

Not sure if that’s the case for your car but I do recommend checking software updates.

Hi, I just got another question. What model year is your car? And does your RSE have Audi Connect?
Regards

Hi LoneWolf95,

I also generated that 03157 error inadvertently, I don’t have RSE.
