0 - 100 km/h certainly is quick for an A8, particularly given that it is not the S model car (S8).

Not surprising given the torque and weight of the D4. When compared to the S7 numbers the A8 4.0T are about the same, which is not surprising, given Audi's tendency to engineer models to keep the interest of the target buyer high. The new engine is a clear statement by Audi, which in the past has deliberately trailed BMW and MB with power and torque in the A8. Of course, given the aluminum body and lighter weight of all A8's, the road performance has never been terribly different from the 7 Series of S Class models. Now Audi wants to get a clear edge and expand its share of the large sedan market in the US, although I think that in China it is the leader in the class.
