Opinions: Buy out Lease or walk away?
Hello,
I just made my last lease payment on a 2013 A8L that I leased for 3 years, no money down, $1272 per month, buy out is $45,263.00, has 39,772 miles on it, only one tiny ding on hood, tires are still with enough tread (second set of tires on the car), in outstanding shape accept for the dumb automatic trunk which was not fixed LOL.
Buy it with extra money for extended warrantee or walk away?
Blue book says trade is $44,000 to $45,000 so I don't think I will be leaving any money on the table if I turn it in and walk away. I doubt I would be offered much more than the buy out to make it worth getting into another car right now.
Going to drive my A4 cab and RS6 for now.
Thoughts?

I went through the same exercise with my X5 back in 2011. End of a 3 yr lease, 27k miles, buyout was 40 and retail was 46 so I bought it. In hindsight, I should have just rolled into another one. Maintenance costs creeped up on me toward the end and the math no longer worked out. It was the equivalent of paying sticker or just north of original sticker for the car after all was added up from the original lease. My advice is punt and keep the $45k cooling in the bank.

I don't know, It's really a matter of how well you like the car. The buyout is below market price for that car, so if you like the 4.0t, I'd buy it. I paid about that much last year for my 2011. However, give it 6 months and you'll find the market will about match that. My car is up to 62,000 and I haven't had any surprises yet.

The market value is an odd thing. It's hard to get some firm numbers on the value. The car does not have any of the more expensive options, the sticker was $96,000 at the time. So the buy out is about 47% of original sticker.
I am looking at finance options and found a rate of 3.74%. still looking.

The Plot Thickens!
I asked my dealer what rates are available from Audi for financing.
This is the deal they offered me.
They buy my car from Audi at my buyout price, $45300. Then do the CPO work up, for $2000.00. Then sell the car back to me for $47,300 plus tax at 1.9 % for 60 months!
CPO warrantee so total of 6 years or 100,000 miles coverage!
The car is mint.....so even if the brakes are down below 50%, etc the CPO process will provide new breaks, etc, etc.

Same with tires.... if the tires are under a certain tread depth they will put new tires on the car before it's offered for sale.
